Chin augmentation can serve to balance facial proportions, restoring a natural and elegant appearance.

WHAT IS CHIN AUGMENTATION?

While the chin typically does not command attention on the face, weak chins, such as a short chin or a chin in a receded position, affect proportions of the different facial features, resulting in an unbalanced look. Chin augmentation (sometimes referred to as a chin implant) can serve to balance facial proportions, restoring a natural and elegant appearance.

PROCEDURE

A small submental incision (under the chin) will be made and a silastic implant with carefully selected size and shape will be placed. The chin augmentation procedure takes 1 hour to complete.

RECOVERY

The stitches will be removed on Day 7 postoperatively. Bruising will take 5-10 days to dissipate. Most of swelling will settle in the first 2 weeks. By about one month time, the scar and the swelling will be quite inconspicuous. However, patients should be aware of there may be some numbness and tightness of the chin which will eventually settle.

BENEFITS

A chin with well-balanced proportions compliments the patient's overall facial appearance.
